PRIESTS SUPPORT DINNER A HUGE SUCCESS!
On Feb. 22 , 2004, as an expression of Goal #2, VOTFNJ held a dinner to show our appreciation to priests who have supported us and to reach out to others. Fifty three people including fifteen priests gathered for an uplifting event which provided an informal opportunity for priests and VOTF laity to interact and gain valuable insights. We hope to build better communication as an outcome of this experience.
Priests of Integrity Action Committee - VOTF goal No. 2 is to support priests of integrity. We are trying to let the bishop, pastors and priests of our diocese know what this promise of support implies by these actions:
- Prayer for priests: Spiritual bouquets and letters of appreciation were sent to our priests and bishops (Archbishop Myers responded with a personal thank you letter).
- Pray daily for priests.
- Monthly letters sent out to all 112 parishes in the Paterson Diocese to inform pastors and staff about VOTF's goals, speakers and events.
- Monthly letters announcing upcoming meetings were also sent to 16 local religious houses and universities.
- Priests are asked to allow us to meet in parishes.
- Seek to meet with priests to discuss VOTF's purposes and plans.
- Seek to meet with priests to discuss their needs.
- While maintaining our support for survivors (VOTF goal No.1), we also believe in due process for accused priests in accordance with the U.S. Bishop's Charter and the law.
